My Story
I’ve been creating since childhood, as far back as I can remember, going through phases and trying new mediums. While in fashion design school at Kent State University, I was able to explore these lifelong passions and found and a love for digital art creation and graphic design. Learning these skills expanded my horizons and has even shaped how I create some of my physical work.
With going to school for fashion design, I also acquired merchandising skills. This lead to a career primarily working within the retail environments of the fashion industry. I was able to unleash some of my creativity through window displays. As someone who was always hesitant to do more three-dimensional art, it became a new challenge for me, and a new space for me within the fashion industry as well.
After years of focusing on fashion and digital art, a trip to Japan inspired me to pick up my paint brush back up and start painting again. From there, I have been able to pick up back where I left off and unlock a well of inspiration.
When I create, I prefer to begin without a concrete idea of what to paint, but rather an emotion I am looking to convey. I generally will start out with desired colors and music selected to help conjure the emotion I want to infuse into each respective work.
I will sketch a basic layout, if required by the piece. My primary technique involves putting the colors directly on the canvas and blending them out to serve as a base. From there I use a mix of thick strokes, dry brush, palette knife, and even my hands to get the desired texture and effect. Each piece’s desired textures and overall aura are most important to me. I usually prefer to keep art abstract, to preserve a space for interpretation, without my hand on the scale.
